Spondylolisthesis

Spondylolisthesis is the name of an abnormal condition when one spinal bone (vertebra) slides forward over the bone beneath it. In spondylolisthesis, a part of the spine is literally out of alignment. The spine is usually weaker at this location and prone to to injury.

What Causes Spondylolisthesis?

SpondylolisthesisA  piece of the vertebra called the “pars” that connects the back of the vertebra with the front of the vertebra (like a bridge) either:
Never forms during early spinal development (congenital)
Physical pressure at some time causes this “bridge” to break

Weightlifting, gymnastics and football are just a few of the activities that have been linked to spondylolisthesis.

In some people suffering with Spondylolisthesis pain, the causes seems unknown and may be due to years of poor posture.

Two Kinds of Spondylolisthesis
